RACOȘ

Access: Follow the road signs from DN13, which connects Sighişoara to Brasov.       Inhabited since the Bronze Age and former Dacian fortress, inhabited today mainly by Hungarian communities, Racoş is today organically linked to the geological reserve, particularly important because it marks the area of the end of the volcanic eruptions in the Eastern Carpathians. The complex is located to the right of the Olt Valley, at the exit of the parade cut by it in the Perşani Mountains. Within this complex, the most spectacular are the Basalt Columns from Racoş. In the western part of the Perşani Mountains there is a relatively wide area, in which a basaltic eruptive formation appears. The perimeter within which the basalts are present, appears in the form of a triangle as follows: east Racoş, west Rupea, and south Comana. The Racoş area was formed by the presence of lava flows. What has been preserved to this day and brings more and more tourists to the area is a series of prismatic basalt columns with heights up to 18 m, which allow a detailed examination of the petrographic structure. The geology lessons of the students can turn into much more interesting experiences if they are done here. Discover in Racoş - Brazi quarry, a former basalt mine and Emerald Lake, the most photographed attractions in the area. The small lake is about 10 meters deep and 100 meters long and was formed over ten years ago, after melting snow and accumulating rainwater. - The extinct volcano Racoş (Hegheş Basalt Slag Career) offers visitors a landscape similar to the Arizona Grand Canyon. In a simple tour of the area you will be fascinated by some interesting contrasts: the green of the leafy vegetation, the volcanic slag of red color and the blue sky. From time to time, you will find large, rounded areas, called volcanic bombs, which have a red color due to the iron compounds they contain. The best place for panoramic pictures is the peak of Hegheş. - The Carhaga fossiliferous place is a paleontological reserve declared a monument of nature, because the stratigraphy is related to the deciphering of the geological evolution of the fluvial formations in the Eastern Carpathians. The Carhaga strata represent a valuable paleogeographic witness. - Observes rare and endangered birds globally - the area around the village of Racoş is one of the most important areas in the country for observing the small eagle. In addition to the species of nesting raptors, there are regularly occurring variables in this area and two globally endangered species: the field eagle and the large eagle. Old forests offer nesting habitat in addition to predators and black storks, have significant populations of oak hammers. If you are passionate about birdwatching, do not miss the botanical and ornithological reserve Cotul Turnuzului, located on the administrative territory of the communes Racoş and Hoghiz, important because here there are numerous species of birds on the Transylvanian route of European migration. - Bethlen Castle [I81] from the village - Freedom Day, which takes place annually, on the 8th day after the Catholic Pentecost. The event celebrates the liberation of the peasants from the slaughter and is celebrated in 1848. The Hungarian community attends the first part of the day at the Reformed Church, and after lunch the party moves to the center of the village, around Bethlen Castle, where a large-scale fair is organized. products. In the evening, there are shows organized inside the Cultural Center.
