Your mini-holiday begins on December 30, when we welcome you with a traditional lunch, including dishes we hope everyone will enjoy, paired with țuica (Romanian plum brandy), wine, and locally made apple juice.
In the evening, we’ll gather around the fireplace to share stories of our village, the Saxon heritage that remains here, and for the kids, a “craft corner” where they can make something special. 🤷🛷😀🥳
On December 31, after a breakfast featuring homemade local products such as cheese, milk, a variety of seven jams, sour milk, minced pork cracklings, boiled pork belly, homemade pâté, and many other treats, we plan to visit the Evangelical church and explore our little village.
Later in the day, we start preparing for the big night. Anyone interested in helping to knead bread, cozonaci (sweet bread), or donuts is warmly invited to join. For lunch, we’ll indulge in our finest foods, with plenty of desserts and mulled țuica to enjoy.
After dinner, we’ll prepare a bonfire in our yard; if we’re lucky enough to have snow, it will be a true winter wonderland. (Come prepared with songs and carols to join in the fun! )
On New Year’s Eve, as night falls, children from the village come by with traditional plugușor chants to welcome the new year. We invite your children to join the caroling, a magical experience. They should bring a little bell, and we’ll provide a whip (one evening we’ll even teach them to make one together!). Dressed up for the celebration, we await the new year’s arrival with abundant food, sweet treats, plenty of wine, and joyful company, including live music.
On the first day of the new year, breakfast might be a bit delayed , so we plan to serve a brunch with the finest holiday foods enjoyed at Romanian tables.
After lunch, we’ll go on a sleigh ride pulled by horses (if there’s no snow, we’ll use a carriage or enjoy a stroll in the open air on nearby fields).
In the evening, we’ll keep the celebration going, and, if we’re lucky, local children will entertain us with traditional dances from the Hârtibaci Valley.
On the second day of the new year, after lunch, we say our farewells, but not without a warm embrace and a small gift from us.
