The thread and lace! Exhibition-dialogue between peasant lace and urban lace + thematic film screening and craft demonstrations with lacemakers from Mândra.

A thin but strong thread connects the peasant laces from Mândra to the finery of interwar Bucharest. On the one hand, the craft passed down from mother to daughter, worked with patience and diligence in the houses of Țara Făgăraș. On the other hand, the urban elegance captured in the collection of Dr. Iulia Gorneanu – curator, collector and representative of the National Institute of Heritage. Between the two worlds there is a story that is too little told: that of the village girls who went to the city as “servants” and returned with invisible threads of refinement, which they interwoven with the craft from home. They did not forget the world they came from, but filled it with what they had discovered.
