The fortified church in Brădeni (Sibiu County) was first mentioned in a document from 1350, probably built on the ruins of an even older 14th-century site. There is no recent spectacular archaeological “discovery”, but a historical development marked by severe flooding: the nearby stream deposited over three meters of alluvium, raising the ground level, so that the floor of the nave was raised by about two meters.

The Chest Depository (Stollentruhen) — in the church’s attic there is a unique set of 140 painted medieval chests, once used to store grain and provisions during sieges. The place is also known as the “Museum of Grain Chests” in Brădeni.

The church organ is unusually located above the altar, installed between 1815 and 1817 by the builder Samuel Mätz.
