Senzonshō is a traditional Japanese percussion instrument, which creates the sound on bells made of metal alloys with the help of a percussion stick, which have been very popular instruments in Japan since ancient times. The bells used by Chiyo Hagiwara are the brand "Kyūjō Orin", manufactured by Yamaguchi Kyūjō Co. Chiyo called them Senzonshō and formed her unique style of singing, as a bridge between the past and the present, tradition and contemporary interpretation of ancient Japanese stories and legends, and by adding personal feelings, the original magical music composed by Chiyo was born.
Chiyo Hagiwara is a pianist who has conducted extensive research in Transylvania, the birthplace of pianist Carl Filtsch (1830, Sebeș – 1845, Venice). As a researcher and pianist, she was the first musician in Japan to release a CD with all the works of Carl Filtsch, "The World of Carl Filtsch, Chopin's Beloved Disciple and Young Genius Composer". Several pieces from this album were featured and broadcast on the NHK (Japanese National Television) program "Labyrinth of Classical Music". Information about this CD has also been featured in numerous music magazines. In April 2017, the CD reached number one on the Billboard Japan Top Albums chart. His second CD (Piano Suites "Poetry and Dance" & "The Sea") was selected as a recommended album in the September 2018 issue of the monthly classical music magazine "Record Geijutsu". His third album is entitled "Suite 'Ama-no-Iwato'" and was recorded in 2021, with original compositions for Senzonshō. His latest original album is titled "Koi Suru Kokoro" and was released in 2022.
