Dear foodie and lover of local flavors, we have prepared a special culinary event for you in the Transylvanian Highlands, at the Valchid 239 Local Gastronomic Point.
We invite you to rediscover the taste of traditional cooking, savoring authentic dishes cooked slowly, with respect for ingredients and a love for genuine flavors.
On Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM, we open the gates of a charming household in the picturesque Saxon village of Valchid. Located in the heart of Transylvania, it is just 7 km from the UNESCO site of Biertan and near the entrance to the Terra Saxonum sector of Via Transilvanica.
Together with us and our welcoming hosts, you will enjoy a beautiful journey into Transylvanian village life, meet the locals, and delight in authentic culinary experiences, nature, and well-preserved traditional architecture.
DAILY PROGRAM
The event will take place between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, featuring the following activities:
Welcome brunch with local products from our hosts' farm: eggplant salad, assorted cheeses, greaves (jumeri), bacon (slăninuță), lard spread, onions, zacusca, homemade sausages, meatballs, coffee (from the Rubia social enterprise in Șoala village), lemonade, and water;
Presentation of the Valchid 239 Local Gastronomic Point;
Relaxation time in the garden and storytelling with our dear hosts, the Grancea family;
Visit to the Pompil family sheepfold: hardworking people who have been producing caș, telemea, and urdă cheese for 15 years—products available for purchase directly from the farm;
Visit to the Valchid Fortified Evangelical Church, a historical monument;
Open discussion about clean food and Community Supported Agriculture (ASAT model), with Ioana & Marius from Culinarativ and ASAT (Association for Supporting Peasant Agriculture);
Lunch service: cream of vegetable soup, pork and potato cauldron stew (ceaun), onion stew, rhubarb cake, coffee, lemonade, and water;
Closing of the event: participants can head home with cheeses from the Pompil family and beautiful memories from a fairytale place!

To validate your registration, a deposit is required (60 lei per adult / 30 lei per child), with the remaining balance to be paid in cash on-site.
